Jeremiah 1:
6
NKJV
6 Then
said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a
youth.”
I’ve found
people in the church to be quite skilful in making excuses.
I wonder if
our excuses can really outsmart our God?
“I’m not
ready”...”I’m not able”...”I’m not available”...”I don’t
understand”...”I haven’t learned that yet”...”I have a Doctor’s
appointment”...
The one I
haven’t heard as of yet is, “My dog ate my homework”...although
anything’s possible.
Benjamin
Franklin once
said... “A person that is good for making excuses...is seldom good for
anything else.”
In fourteen
years of ministry, I’ve heard just about all the excuses you could think
of.
Jeremiah had
an excuse right at the tip of his tongue, when God called him to be a
prophet.
His excuse
was the same excuse we use when we don’t obey the voice of God.
That would
assume that we can all hear the voice of God.
That’s
another devotional for another time...but suffice to say that most people don’t
or won’t hear the voice of God.
“It’s the
Pastor’s job”...”That’s not within my gifting”...”I’ve already
served in that area”...”Let someone younger do it”...”I’m too
old”.
I’m not
suggesting that God is calling each of us to be a prophet, but He has called
each of us to something great.
How are you
at adding to the well being of your home church? How are you making the Body of
Christ more profitable where you worship?
Maybe some
of us need to stop making it about us...and start making it about the One...Who
it’s about in the first place.
No more
excuses?
