The enduring word of God

1 Peter 1: 23 – 25
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever."

The older I get, the more the second part of this verse is coming to light.
I have finally realized, that I’m not going to live forever.

Today, I will officiate at the funeral of two souls from our church, who passed together last week into an eternity with God Himself.
I’m sure that at one time in their lives, they thought they would live forever.

What will stand as a testimony to their lives?
Will 65 years of marriage stand? Will the children and grandchildren they loved, stand?
Will their bank accounts stand? Or will how they applied God’s Word over the years, stand as a lasting testimony?

Truthfully, after you and I are long gone from this earth—after we have withered from existence, the only thing that will stand, is God’s Word.

For some reason, the older I get, the more I realize that God deserves my very best.
He deserves my best worship, and my best praise and my best service and my best love and my best devotion.

I’m still perplexed, that for some, God’s Word isn’t enough. For some, it’s no longer exciting enough.
I come from imperishable seed, and I have been born from above.
In the last years of my life, I have to live like that—because in the end, how I live this life for God, will one day be measured.

I’ve decided today, that I’m falling for the things, that stand forever……….
